If you want to seriously make money with affiliate programs, there is nothing more important you can do than tracking your PPC campaigns.  It is essential you track in order to get the highest return on your investment.  Without tracking you wouldn't know where your profit and where your losses are coming from.  What's more, you are losing out on huge margins by not knowing which of your campaigns you need to be spending more time on.

The "Old School" way of monetization are strategies such as Google AdSense, those small ads you see in sites that say "sponsored by Google" which the site owner gets paid for every time someone clicks on them. Also there are affiliate offers where you sell products for a 3rd party and they pay for it. Commission Junction is a great place to look for ideas to get you started. Finally CPA offers, which are usually found through different networks such as Hydranetwork.

After you do your initial keyword research, group similar themed keywords into an ad group.  Then make sure you set up tracking for that ad group to follow the progress.

Add PPC Ads to your Site

If you have a few advertisements on your website already, you can always sneak in a little bit of text advertisements from advertisement applications such as AdSense. What gives these ads so much potential is that they can give you money each time the ad is being clicked. Of course, people that click on your site will be driven away from your site, but at least you'll get a little bit of extra for taking that person to a sponsored site. As you get more traffic every day, these earnings can add up. The best spots to put these textual ads are near any blogs or articles that you have on your website.

Commission Junction is a great site. Look for suitable affiliates whose banners you can add to your site. They must approve you.

At this point you want to look at your losing campaigns.  If you find that there are some sales but it's at an overall loss, you may want to isolate each keyword and set up tracking individually to see if which keywords are bringing in the sales.  If the campaign itself is a total failure, you should take the loss and toss the campaign.
