There are many social service agencies that are run nationwide as well as on a state and local level. Some of the services are for profit and others are non-profit organizations. The majority of them get government support to provide services in addition to fund raising events and fees for services. We live in one of the highest taxed states in the union. We have income taxes, sales taxes and very high property taxes. In some ways it does not seem fair that some states do not have income taxes and sales taxes while others do. I live in the state of Minnesota. We do need a great deal of road maintenance due to our extreme weather conditions. Also our metropolitan area has expanded a great deal over the past fifteen years. There are many things in our country that seem strange for someone that has recently moved here. A young woman that I supervised for her social work internship recently became engaged to a young man from Scotland. After her internship she went to Scotland to work and met the love of her life.
